High-precision Numerical Computation of High-degree Gauss quadrature Nodes

Zhang Qingli,Wang Xiaomei,Yin Shaotang,Jiang Haihe

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 2,   Pages 35-40

Abstract:

Gauss quadrature is used widely in many fields such as the engineering numerical computation, X-ray diffraction profile analysis, spectroscopy, and so on. The nodes and weight factors of Gauss-quadrature are essential data to the numerical integration. A method to compute the zeroes of the high-degree Legendre, Laguerre and Hermite polynomials, which are the nodes of Gauss-Legendre, Gauss-Laguerre and Gauss-Hermite Quadrature, respectively, is studied, and a very efficient algorithm scan-iteration method(SIM) is given. According to the properties of Legendre, Laguerre and Hermite polynomials, their definitions are modified a little, and the stable recursive relations to compute their value are obtained. To extract these polynomials, their root intervals are searched with a certain step within a certain range. After the intervals of all roots are obtained, the roots with the desired precision can be gotten by the general iteration methods such as secant or bisection method. Numerical experiments indicate that the method is very efficient and the high-precise roots of Legendre, Laguerre and Hermite polynomials can be extracted.

The Theorem of the Resistance of Hydraulic Machine's Materials to Cavitation Erosion and Abrasion

Wang Biao,Wang Yudong,Zhang Zihua,Ye Xianguo

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 7,   Pages 58-61

Abstract:

In order to confirm the dependence of the resistance of cavitation erosion and abrasion (CEA) on the common properties of materials, four typical materials (WC coating, NiCr alloy coating, boron stainless steel and titanium) were used to do the experiments of CEA and cavitation erosion (CE), to do corrosive experiment, and to test their hardnesses. The experiments results indicated that all resistance to CEA and resistance to CE depend on the hardness and the corrosive resistance of materials. The high hardness is the first factor of good resistance to CEA, strong corrosive resistance is the second factor. Meanwhile, the strong corrosive resistance is the first factor of good resistance to CE, high hardness is the second factor.

Dimethicone-aided laser cutting of solar rolled glass

Wenyuan LI, Guojun ZHANG, Long CHEN, Yu HUANG, Youmin RONG, Zhangrui GAO

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2021, Volume 16, Issue 1,   Pages 111-121 doi: 10.1007/s11465-020-0615-1

Abstract: Solar rolled glass, with one micro-structure surface and another roughness surface, can cause diffuse refraction of the focused laser spot, and this phenomenon restricts the application of laser manufacturing. In this study, laser cutting of solar rolled glass with a thickness of 2.5 mm was successfully achieved with the help of dimethicone to ensure laser focusing. Dimethicone was coated on the top surface of the rolled glass processing zone, and a bottom–up multilayer increment with the spiral line was applied to control the cutting path. Different viscosity values of dimethicone were considered. Results showed that surface quality increased as the viscosity increased until a certain threshold was reached; afterward, the surface quality decreased or directly caused the cutting to fail. The minimum surface roughness (3.26 µm) of the processed surface (chipping: Width≤113.64 µm, area 215199 µm ) was obtained when the dimethicone viscosity and laser pulse frequency were 1000 mm /s and 43 kHz (power 25.4 W), respectively. The micro-defects on the processed surface were few, and the edge chipping width and depth of the laser processed surface were small.
